Georgia’s Abano Pass is one of the most thrilling roads in the Caucasus, rising steeply through forested valleys and alpine cliffs toward the legendary region of Tusheti. This tour lets you experience the beginning of that route in a private 4x4, without committing to the entire high-altitude crossing.
Your local driver will take you through switchbacks, over rushing rivers, and into deep pine-scented forests. We stop for views, short walks, and waterfalls, adapting to the weather and your energy. It’s a true adventure without going beyond your comfort zone.
Book your alpine rideFrom Telavi, we head northeast and begin the climb up the legendary road to Tusheti. The road quickly becomes rugged, hugging the mountainside with breathtaking views of the Stori Valley below. We won’t go all the way to the pass (unless requested), but we’ll reach high enough for alpine air, cascading streams, and true mountain atmosphere. The route is dramatic but managed with care by our seasoned 4x4 drivers.
We use only high-clearance 4x4 vehicles (Toyota Land Cruiser or similar) for this route. Your driver is local and experienced in Tusheti terrain, adjusting speed and timing based on real-time road and weather conditions. If at any point the group prefers to stop or turn back, we adapt, your safety and comfort come first.
This experience lasts around 4–5 hours depending on how far you choose to go. Prices start at $160 per vehicle. Optional picnic stops or extended hiking time can be arranged. Full Tusheti ascents require prior confirmation and cost adjustment.
You don’t need to drive all the way to Tusheti to feel its pull. This tour gives you a safe, flexible way to explore the beginning of Georgia’s most awe-inspiring road, just enough for bold photos, fresh alpine air, and a story you’ll never forget. Pickup from Telavi or nearby villages is included.
No. This tour is focused on the scenic portion of the lower pass. Full Tusheti transfers are possible but require planning and cost more.
